WOW life really got a hold of me this time. Its been REALLY long since I last posted.

In a bout of nostalgia I was remembering how much I miss the days when I had time to scrapbook!With 2 little ones my time is not my own. So in an effort to preserve my creativity and love for scrapbooking Ive tried to do more on the digital side. Even my site has elements from a digital scrapbooking kit I sell on the web store.

I think I have mentioned this site before but they really have evolved since the days of just putting up some sketches made on the fly.

This looks like a super neat layout to make that could be a guide for digital or traditional results.

Save some $ and make your own scrapbook ornaments!

I found this great little example online at about.com on how to make your own scrapbook ornaments! . This is something right up my ally and if I had time I'm sure I could make a killing selling these!

First off you'll need to print out the pattern from this link.

next you'll need to cut out the scrapbook ornament and score on the lines. You can do this with a ruler and dull point.

make sure to use a bone folder or a dull edge to smooth out the ornament along the creases to make the edges very exact.

"It is much easier to add photos and embellishments to your pyramid when it is still flat. Be sure to determine which point will be at the top so that all of your photos are right side up on the finished scrapbook ornament. Add photos, cardstock strips, punchies, buttons, brads, ribbon, and more to completely cover the ornament. You may wish to journal on the bottom triangle. "

"Assemble the pyramid by adding a strip of photo tape to each flap and gluing it shut. If you wish to make this a gift box, simple leave on flap un-taped and tuck it in like a lid at the end. To hang your scrapbook ornament you can use a small piece of thin ribbon or floss that you string through the top of the pyramid with an embroidery needle."

You know have a super cute handmade decoration for your tree. Have the whole family make one each year to add to your ornament collection and save some $ on replacing holiday ornaments that break.

Preserving your Paper crafts and Altered Art

I’ve learned that though I make items to preserve memories the item itself needs to be preserved as well.

Lately Ive been coating my projects with Mod Podge. They have matte, glossy, even sparkles! I use the gloss to give a nice sheen to my projects and the matte when I just want the added protection.

This really helps when you have handmade or papered projects like albums and altered tins that get a lot of handling. This will keep the paper from smudging, fading or becoming dirty and worn.

You can also use mod podge to stiffen paper and make it thicker.

Christmas Card Swap!

I am coordinating the Itchin To Scrap Christmas card swap!

So, how does a card swap work?

Basically, you make a bunch of the same cards (handmade cards only, please) and mail them to me. I gather all of the cards and combine them all into different sets. Then, I send you back the same number of cards you sent me.

Why do a card swap?

Because it's nice to mix things up a bit. :-) I really enjoyed
sending out handmade cards to all my friends and family last year. It's much easier and cheaper to make one kind of card. By swapping, everyone can have an assortment!

Who can participate?

Everyone is welcome...from novice to expert. There will be a minimal fee charged (only $5) and that will help me offset the cost of all the shipping I'll have to do! PLUS...I hear there may be a prize for the best card involved!

Deadlines

Please let me know you are interested by November 20th. All cards need to be mailed no later than Dec 1 to be included in the swap. I will compile and send out the sets on Dec 6th so you can get them mailed by Christmas.

This is something I've been trying to figure out for a LOOOOOOOOONG time but it takes a lot of code editing of the blog script and I have no formal education in that area so trial and error finally got us the right result, WOOOHOO!

Our site was moved to a new host and soon after we found out there were script issues with our cart and affiliates. Next there had been a security breach and we had been hacked and implanted with link farms and phishing scripts which lead to the domain being closed and the hosting account suspended.

Cart and affiliate links down

For about a week and a half our webstore's shopping cart and affiliate links have been down. In the emails flying about it all in my hosts yahoo group its because of a php update. Our host reseller is suppose to fix the effected pages on her end but she had gotten sick and was working from bed and the last we heard from her was the 10th. Unfortunately most of us are small sites with not much extra capital to just transfer hosts and start anew from scratch . Oh Woes Me

I broke my laptop screen and Im in mid finals!

We formated it and went to drop it off at the store to be fixed, WELL we have to mail it . So now Im on a formated laptop using a spare monitor until finals is over.

Im having to use the web version of everything...IMs, my email and all that jazz. So that leads me to why I havent gotten any scrapbooking done. Finals is all consuming and with a hyper toddler and colicy 3 month old I really feel like Im going INSANE ! School was so easy before kiddos.

"I used different scrapbook papers. I cut certain pieces of paper out for embellishments and layered that on top of the scrapbook paper I used to wrap the envelope. My goal was to make something that would mail without falling apart...lol. So, scissors, a steady hand, scrapbook paper, and double sided tape."

"Embossed paper, an envelope, chalk, brads and a hook, swirly paper clips, ribbon, and liquid glass.
Cut paper and formed to the envelope and shaded with chalk, glassed the mermaid and all of the bubbles, pierced with the brads and hooks and strung ribbon through to tie the envelope closed."

"I used a white 5x7 envelope, painted it w/ grey acrylic paint, made white lines with a unibal opaque white pen, the dragon is a paper piecing I made for a scrapbook layout, I scanned it and printed it onto sticker paper smaller than actual size, windows are hand cut cardstock, there is stippling with ink. (all ink is Stazon so it could be mailable) The scroll fence, scroll corners around postage, dragon stamp and foliage images are Becky Chabot Flourishes stamp sheet by heartsintouch.com, there is a punch of gold foil paper dragon, the shield was a clip art printed onto sticker paper. The way the flap opens is shown; the window hangs over the edge a bit, I even put a real USA postage w/ oriental image on it., there is another window behind the large dragon on the front of the envie."

Working on the contest

Dont mind the delay in voting for the altered envelopes. I got all the info now from the contestants that actually followed through! (whats up with people these days not doing what they say they will sheesh)

Well this is what I get for helping a girl out on her blog. Im forced to blog about myself. That'll teach me!

So now I have to tell you all in cyberland 6 things you dont know about me. Might be hard because Im an open book and really dont hide much. here goes...

1.) In honor of the one that tagged me Berrie, I had my nipples pierced once upon a time. I wasnt much for rebelling when I was young so I got that all out in one action. When I got pregnant I took them out. Im telling you, it hurt more than having babies. (now I hope my clients arent so totally shocked about this TMI that they will never return!)

2.) We didnt name our daughter until about 5 min before the recorder had to leave. I was only able to convince hubby to accept Scarlett as her name by getting on the net on my cell and showing him a picture of the actress. I think he was so stunned by the sexy pic that popped up that he had no will to fight me over a name anymore. Im sorry but I was not naming her Stacy!

3.) Im too lazy to use punctuations in my conjunctions. See now you are noticing it )" alt=")" class="middle" width="15" height="15" />

4.) I was born in New Jersey, but never lived there. It was snowing and it was a catholic hospital with a bunch of nun midwives.

5.) All 4 of us in our little family unit are born in Feb. The latest addition was due on leap day but just couldnt wait 21 hours longer.

6.) I dont get too excited about traditional scrapbooking. Im into the altered arts and crafts. (had to talk scrap somewhere in here!)

Going crazy here

Wow how time flies when your having fun aka changing diapers, nursing, sleeping in 2-3 hour increments, cleaning and recleaning after a toddler...

On top of that we are looking to buy a house and just got a new car. man o man what have I gotten myself into. I have no lack of life events going on thats for sure!

So Im a tad behind on blogging but I do have posts in my head:

need to post pics of some projects I made a while ago and never took pics of.
need to post the babys birth story and her hospitalization at 12 days (not as bad as it sounds)

theres probably more I cant seem to remember right now but it will eventually get posted In the mean time Im off to study for 2 midterms, look for a location for my local networking group to meet at, do mailings, make orders, reply to emails, send out e-newsletters, and I might actually get some sleep when my toddler goes down for his nap soon!

As I play the waiting game

OK Ive been slacking. Still need to take pics of those kits we made but considering I'm about to pop a baby any min now I haven't been all to focused on anything else.

A friend has been helping me finish an album for a client and we are at about 35 pages. I think when we hit 40 I need to cut it off and see if she wants me to start on a new one since its bursting and I don't think I could do more than a double filling of pages. Soon though Ill take pics of all the layouts we made. Some really fun and creative stuff we came up with!

Ive also been in some online courses for a few weeks so I'm here rushing to get a million assignments done by the deadline tonight. Though going into labor now would be a pretty darn good excuse for turning an assignment late!

We started on Fundraiser Kits

We have FINALLY gotten a good enough variety of donations to start on making some kits for the Give a Kid a Kit Fundraiser.

Out of all donations we were able to only make 27 kits and have left over donations still but not enough to make any more full kits. (pics will be up soon of some kits)

Each kit has:
10 papers
6 cardstock
1 tool (punch, scissor, or stencil)
1 paper embellishment
1 fancy embellishments
1 alpha sticker
1 sticker sheet
various cardstock scraps in large and small in squares and triangles

So we need a fresh supply of all those items PLUS we really need adhesives. Glue sticks can be cheap and work great. Thats really the one thing lacking in these kits.

Mailing 12x12

Ok so this musty be the age old question. How to mail 12x12 scrapbooking items like papers and albums.

I just found something online that suggested taking priority mail boxes and taping them up flat but to mail just a 1 or 2 page layout that seems pricey. Other than creating your own packaging with cardboard or bubble wrap and brown paper Id like to find some sort of premade packaging. Id think it would need to be at least 13x13 to have the right amount of room. PLEASE if you know of something comment here and help us scrappers out!

Ultrasound Pics of baby #2

Recently i had to go in for an ultrasound (dont worry all is ok) but it amazes me how far technology as come! The ultrasound pics were so clear and detailed Its scary. I got the first glimpse at what my little girl will look like!

This is definitely going in her first scrapbook which I need to start prepping, though I really need to catchup on my sons. Hes 2 and Im only to 6 months in his book....seems thats how it is huh? The scrapbookers children have no books?

What is Scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is the practice of combining photos, memorabilia and stories in a scrapbook style album.

Scrapbooking has actually been around for over 180 years, even before the first camera was invented! The scrapbook was devised to display a wide range of minor mementoes.

Scrapbooking began in Germany. The first scrapbooking albums were called THE COMMON PLACE BOOK. The word "scrapbook" didn't appear until the 1830's. Printed pictures were etched, engraved, or lithographed.

William Granger invented books with blank pages in the back for personalizing. Granger books were also published with a manual on how to create them. Friendship albums were little books that included quotes, poems, thoughts, and hair weaving of a person. Hair weaving was a common thing in Germany in the 17th century. Girls would collect hair from all their friends and weave them into an intricate design including ribbon and pressed flowers, with remembrance about that person.

The scrap collecting craze started in 1826 due in part to a published book by John Poole which was titled Manuscript Gleanings and Literary Scrapbook. It presented creative ways to display poems, journal writings, and plain old scraps. The first scrapbooking album appeared on the market in 1836. It had ornate covers, separate title pages, and frames.

Die cutting and stamping appeared in albums by the 1870's. Companies produced scrapbooking images just for album makers. After the camera was invented in 1880, photos appeared in scrapbooks. George Eastman and the Kodak camera revolutionized the design of the scrapbook.

The peak decade for popularity of scrapbooking was 1880-1890. Magazines of the times included articles on what to include in your scrapbooks. The art of scrapbooking began to decline around 1940, when the popularity of personal photos and photo albums rose. In 1975 scrapbooking became popular again with people wanting to know their genealogy. Scrapbooking evolved in the 1990's.

Today, scrapbooking is thought of as a form of art. Those who enjoy scrapbooking use their imaginations to portray their thoughts, feelings, stories, as well as treasured moments on the pages of their scrapbooking albums. Entire stores and manufacturing companies are devoted only to scrapbooking products. Specialty papers, pens, albums, stickers, die cuts, and various shape cutters are all readily available to those who want to learn scrapbooking. Measures are being taken to insure that scrapbooking albums are archival and will stand the test of time without fading or deteriorating. Scrapbooking is a creative way of passing down stories and memories to generations to come!
